To stay in touch with nature, and keep my painting skills fresh, I occasionally paint from life. A technique known as “plein air”. It came from impressionistic painting, and helps me keep from getting too “tight”!
Corncrib Door
8x10
Oils on wood.
This was one of my first tries with a pallet knife! I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I almost called it “wonky door” since it is an old building, and leans quite a bit!

Serenity
16x20
Oils on canvas board.
Painted over three afternoons at Minnihaha Falls in Minneapolis, MN. It was my first serious Plein Air painting, and still the most detailed.

Gone Fishing
11x14
Oils on wood
Painted in the Spring at a lake in the Lansing MI area. The fisher actually showed up as I was packing up, and since I liked the human element, I did cheat and add him in my studio later!
